Born in the United States (1893-1969). He directed the American Office of Strategic Services in Berne (Switzerland) during the Second World War. He was head of intelligence services of the United States and Director of the CIA from 1953 to 1961. He was responsible for the planning and execution of Operation Pluto (Bay of Pigs) for which its failure forced him to resign. During the command of Dulles over the CIA, the overthrow of Guatemalan President Jacobo Arbenz was accomplished in 1954.
