Democratic Revolutionary Rescue

In May 1960 the followers of politician Antonio de Varona, ex Minister of the Prio government and linked to the Mafia, decided to create a new organization, due to the contradictions and ambitions for power that existed among them, basically because of the different opinions between Varona and Carlos Frio, which led to the creation of Democratic Revolutionary Rescue.

Directed from abroad by Varona himself, it turned out to be of the main counterrevolutionary groups. In the United States it had capital and links to the CIA for the supply of materials to carry on their subversive and terrorist actions against Cuba. Its figurehead was Alberto Cruz Caso, while Leopoldina Grau Alsina was in charge of the women’s front, and both belonged to an espionage ring.

This movement planned and organized several assassination attempts against president Fidel Castro.
