Department od Homeland Security

The creation of a Department of Homeland Security, with 15 subordinate agencies, 180,000 employees and a 30 billion dollar annual budget, is part of George W. Bush’s response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The facts, however, point elsewhere: this organization is actually designed to exercise complete control over American citizens, to monitor any thought or opinion which does not respond to the hegemonic interests of the ruling elite and to violate the civil rights which citizens enjoy in that nation. With respect to Latin America, the case which reveals the operational, political and moral inconsistencies of the newly-created department is that of Luis Posada Carriles – the ringleader behind the sabotage and mid-air destruction of a Cuban commercial plane. The Department of Homeland Security has evaded its responsibilities by leaving this notorious terrorist in the hands of an immigration court and by remaining silent on his case, which marks him as one of the most despicable criminals in the western hemisphere.
