Born in Cuba. Former commander of the Rebel Army led by Fidel Castro. After the triumph of the Revolution he became head of the Agramonte Second Regiment in the province of Camaguey. During this time Matos began to plan counter-revolutionary activities and acts of treason. Arrested in October 21, 1959 and sentenced under trial number 240/59. He was released October 21, 1979 and went directly to the United States. In 1979, he founded the terrorist organization Cuba Independence and Democracy (CID), from which he organized violent acts of intimidation in an attempt to prevent economic investments in Cuba and has incited terrorist activities against our country. His organization has brought together terrorists of the likes of Nelsy Ignacio Castro Matos, who is directly tied to Luis Posada Carriles and his terrorist activities against Cuba. Currently Castro Matos is one of the financial backers of the defence team in the case against four terrorists held in Panama for attempting to commit an assassination attempt against the Cuban president. Castro Matos’ organization has been linked to drug trafficking operations.
