Omega 7

The so-called Omega 7 Cuban Nationalist Movement arose in 1963, headed by ringleaders Armando Santana, Eduardo Arosena and the brothers Guillermo and Ignacio Novo Sampol. Recognized by even the FBI as the most important and aggressive terrorist group of the times, it ended up using violence within the United States itself.

Between 1963 and 1981, this organization perpetrated more than 60 terrorist attacks against Cuban facilities, commercial institutions and other entities associated with Cuba.

In 1964, members of this organization fired a bazooka at the United Nations building as Commandant Ernesto “Che” Guevara was speaking. They also acted in complicity with the Chilean intelligence agency (DINA) in the murder of that country’s ex-foreign minister Orlando Letelier and his American secretary, in Washington in 1976; killed Cuban-American journalist Carlos Muniz Varela in 1979; and assassinated Cuban UN official Felix Garcia Rodriguez.
