Rafael Diaz-Balart Gutierrez

Born in Cuba.

Former minister during the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship. When the Revolution seized power in 1959 he moved to the United States.

He was the president, and one of the founders of the terrorist organization La Rosa Blanca made up predominantly of former Batista followers and members of the Cuban bourgeoisie. In his capacity as president of the organization he planned several acts against civil and economic targets in Cuba that resulted in physical injuries to people. He joined ranks with a group of henchmen and Batista followers and has made statements against the Cuban Revolution in public hearings of the U.S. Senate.

Father of Lincoln Diaz-Balart Caballero, and Senator since 1992, he has the support of the CANF. He, together with Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, has been the spokesperson of the ultra-rightwing and terrorist organizations of Cuban origin based in southern Florida.
