The Assassination of Noe Gomez Limon

Noe Gomez Limon testified in the process into the assassination of Bishop Juan Jose Gerardi. He was shot to death in the Villanueva municipality on December 19, 2001. His body was found with three bullet holes in the cranium. During the trial, Gomez had declared that on the night of the assassination of Monsignor Gerardi he saw former Sergeant Jose Obdulio Villanueva leave and return to his cell hours later.

At the time, Noe Gomez Limon was sharing a cell with the former military officer in the Antigua Guatemala prison. The H.R. office of the Archbishop of Guatemala indicated that from the details it has been able to piece together, Noe Gomez Limon was kidnapped by several individuals while at his home; hours later his body turned up riddled with bullets.

Nery Rodenas, representative of the Archbishop office said, “it might have been an intimidation message aimed at other witnesses and people related to the case.”
