United Occidental Front

The UOF was an espionage network organized by the CIA that was directed by CIA agent Esteban Marquez Novo, who infiltrated into Cuba in 1962. It had eight “command posts” from Pinar del Rio to Matanzas, including Isla de Pinos (current Isla de la Juventud municipality).

Members of that spy ring were mainly former members of Batista's army. Relaying military information was their main mission, a task that reached its peak in the October 1962 missile crisis. Another of the group's objectives was to organize a counterrevolutionary movement and initiate an armed uprising.

It was dismembered by the Cuban State Security forces in 1964.
